Battle Trance
Doors 7:30 pm; $15Battle Trance is a genre-defying ensemble with the unlikely configuration of four tenor saxophonists: Travis Laplante, Patrick Breiner, Matthew Nelson, and Jeremy Viner. They recently released their third record of compositions by band leader Travis Laplante that straddle the line between Contemporary Classical music and avant-garde jazz. Each album, properly viewed as a single, complete work, evolves gradually, using novel textures facilitated by the simultaneous circular-breathing of multiple saxophonists. Their first record was filled with hypnotic drones and ominous themes, whereas the second record was more gentle and even a bit nostalgic or wistful in atmosphere. Given the incredible range of the first two releases, you can be sure they’ll once again be bringing something completely unique.
