First you’ll need an audio interface. With an audio interface you’ll be able to use higher quality microphones and speakers, which will increase the quality of your music production. Before buying an interface, be sure that it is compatible with your computer. If you’re going to record live instruments or vocals, you’ll need a microphone. Certain microphones record certain instruments and sound choices better than others. Next you will need studio monitors or speakers that improve the quality of recorded sound. If virtual instruments are something that you plan on using in your recordings, you will need a MIDI keyboard/controller. These keyboards provide basic controls and allow you to manipulate your instruments. You will also need cables in order to connect all of your hardware. You will need the cables for your microphone, audio interface, and studio monitors. Next, possibly most importantly, you will need a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software. The DAW serves as your vital recording software. You will also need virtual instruments. Although most DAWs come with some low-quality instruments it would be a good idea to upgrade to something of higher quality. Although it seems like a lot, those are all the essentials you will need to get started with producing music. After obtaining the equipment, be sure to pick an ideal room that is quiet with walls that don’t produce too much reverberation.
