The marquee lights at two of Mirvish’s signature venues, both named in honour of royalty. At 8 p.m. tonight, September 8, 2022, the marquee lights will dim at the Royal Alexandra Theatre and the Princess of Wales Theatre, both on King Street West.
Both theatres are also destined to be busy, as part of the Toronto International Film Festival, which officially kicks off tonight.
Born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor on April 21, 1926, Queen Elizabeth II would become the longest reigning British monarch ever. She took the throne on the death of her father George VI in February 1952 and — at the age of 25 — and reigned as queen for a total of 70 years and 214 days.
Her marriage to Philip Mountbatten lasted 73 years from 1947 until his death in 2021. She is survived by her children Charles III; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, along with eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She will be succeeded by her son Charles III.
