Toronto audiences and community groups are getting a new state-of-the-art music venue, set to officially open with a concert on February 10, 2023. The TD Music Hall is one of four venues in the Allied Music Centre.

The TD Music Hall is located on the fourth floor of the Allied Music Centre, a new structure that is connected to historic Massey Hall. The additional space was constructed as part of the massive Massey Hall Revitalization Project that began in June 2018. The main Massey Hall concert space reopened in November 2021.

The 500-capacity TD Music Hall includes an immersive audio system and cutting edge lighting and video projection systems, along with integrated audio and video recording capabilities. Along with the superior room acoustics, the view will include a dynamic scene of urban Toronto through 10.5 metre-high, floor-to-ceiling windows.

“TD Music Hall represents the future of Toronto’s music scene. Purpose-built for incredible sound with modern amenities for fans and artists alike,” said Jesse Kumagai, President and CEO, Allied Music Centre in a media release. “This brand new venue is a gift to music fans, much like Massey Hall when it first opened its doors in 1894.”

A team of companies consulted on the new concert venue, including KPMB Architects, Charcoal Blue, Engineering Harmonics and Imagine Sound.

The new venue comes at a crucial time in Toronto’s live music history, and at 500 seats, it fills an important slot suitable for both local, national and international touring acts. With so many venues having closed during or due to the pandemic, it’s welcome news for musicians and audiences alike.

Along with its usual role as a concert venue, the TD Music Hall will host events in partnership with community groups representing diverse musical genres and traditions, including International Indigenous Music Summit, Honey Jam, TD Toronto Jazz Festival, Lula Music and Arts Centre, Lulaworld Festival, and Small World Music. Offerings will include special programming and events for music students and community groups.

More is yet to come in the Allied Music Centre, including the Deane Cameron Recording Studio, and a community theatre space with up to 150-capacity that will open in the near future.

Some dates for the TD Music Hall have been booked as far in advance as November 2023, representing a mix of popular genres. The venue’s inaugural concert will feature The Halluci Nation (formerly A Tribe Called Red) and their multimedia show at a grand opening on Feb 10, 2023. Limited tickets on sale here.
