Winners Announced at 2022 Zhuhai International Mozart Competition


Violinist Lorenz Karls won first prize in the senior category

Established in 2015, the competition is presented by the University of Mozarteum Salzburg and hosted in three age categories.

Open to violinists under 23, the competition not only focuses on young musicians’ virtuosity but also attaches great importance to their understanding and interpretation of classical music style.

Violin Group A:

First Prize: Tao Baiyi

Second Prize: Yang Qingyuan

Third Prize: Jayda Shiyu Lu

Fourth Prize: Guo Fengning

 

Violin Group B:

First Prize: Leonhard Baumgartner

Second Prize: Li Jinzhu and Boha Moon

 

Violin Group C:

First Prize: Lorenz Karls

Second Prize: Yeyeong Jin

Third Prize: Dongyoung Jake Shim

Diploma: Cui Bo

 

Lorenz Karls will receive $30,000 for winning the senior category first prize.

Open to violinists 24 and under, the competition was held completely virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 jury comprises Paul Roczek (Chairman), Pierre Amoyal, Kun Hu, Ida Kavafian, Alf-Richard Kraggerud, Dora Schwarzberg, Tong Weidong, and David Frühwirth.

Former first prize winners of the competition include VC Artist María Dueñas, Ziyu He, Chloe Chua, Daniil Bulayev, Shihan Wang, Liu Yiming, Yuzhe Qiu, Jinan Woo, Lina Nakano, Simon Zhu, and Haruna Shinoyama.
